5 Tips for Installing a Killer Built- In Entertainment Center

February 6, 2020
Americans watch an astonishing amount of television. In fact, the average American household spends nearly 8 hours per day watching TV!With all that TV time it's nice to have a comfortable spot from which to watch your favorite shows. That's where a built-in entertainment center comes in handy.Set up your TV with your gaming systems, Blu-Ray and DVD players, and all your favorite movies in one handy spot. Looking to install your own killer built-in entertainment center? Check out these tips!

1. Hide the Wires

The last thing you want to do is install a fancy built-in entertainment center and have a bunch of ugly cords hanging everywhere. The entertainment center is a focal point in the room and will draw the eyes of your guests. Thus, you can use a wire concealment system to easily secure the wires out of sight--and out of mind.

2. Install a Good Surge Protector

Having all your electronic toys together like this means that you're going to be plugging a lot of stuff into the same outlets. Most modern home wiring systems are up to the task, so that's not a problem. What can be a problem, however, are electrical surges during a storm or whatnot. A big enough surge could slay all your favorite electronic devices at once. Avoiding this problem is easy, simply include a low-profile surge protector during installation.

3. Make the Shelves Adjustable

You never know when your entertainment needs will change. You might buy a bigger TV with your tax return. Or maybe you add a new gaming system.Regardless, you don't want to be stuck with the same configuration forever. Make the shelves adjustable so that you can easily rearrange whenever you want.

4. Secure Your TV

Even if you don't live in an earthquake-prone area, it's a good idea to stabilize any large furniture in your home. That's one of the big benefits of a built-in entertainment system. Since it's well secured to the wall, you don't have to worry about it tipping over. But don't forget to secure your TV and other large electronics as well. Shockingly, a child goes to the ER every 30 minutes after being injured by a falling TV.Save yourself the worry and ensure that can't happen. If you're not sure how to do it properly, don't hesitate to call in the professionals to mount your TV properly.

5. Finish With Crown Molding

Once you're done with the installation, be sure to finish it off with crown molding. this will give your entertainment center a nice, finished look. After all that work installing it you want it to look nice. After all, it's probably one of the largest pieces of furniture in your family room so guests will be looking at it.
